After seeing Petra we left for Wadi Rum, a camp in the desert.

On arrival at the desert entrance we had to transfer from the bus to 4 wheel drive vehicles as the bus could not handle the soft desert sand.

Role reversal - luggage inside truck -  passengers on the back!

Now we're starting to see why the bus was left behind!

A quick stop to view the desert from the top of a sand dune.

Of course more camel rides were offered. At a price.

I am not sitting on anything I can fall off that is higher than 6 feet off the ground!

We saw some ancient petro glyphs (left) and above is the original camp for Lawrence of Arabia.

Finally arriving at our desert camp for the night.

Out tent - the "hotel room" for the night. It had heating but only until 9pm when they switch off the generator.

Lots of blankets are provided because the desert gets very cold at night.

Our tent had an en-suite bathroom, although many others didn't. They had to use the communal restroom.

The camp was not quite as luxurious as we were expecting, but still a lot of fun.

The food was OK and very traditional Bedouin. It got very cold but the blankets were more than adequate and the heat kicked back on again at 6am.

Overall a very unique and wonderful experience!!

And finally...

Wherever we went in Jordan including the desert there are cats EVERYWHERE!

Some look pretty sad, scrawny and beaten up, others spoiled in perfect health. But there is no place (including Petra itself) that did not have a myriad of cats hanging around.
